DesignShifts

Exploring a better future for and through design

In 2024, I founded DesignShifts — a movement, experimental lab, and learning platform where we research and practice non-extractive design methods for times of systemic transition.

It's a space to research, practice, and share non-extractive design methods for a world in flux. Part community, part curriculum, part ongoing experiment.

DesignShifter Archetypes

As part of DesignShifts, I’ve developed archetypes that explore roles responses needed in a changing world. These are part of a suite of tools that aim to help us become more response-able, align our actions with the current landscape, and find new ways to flourish alongside nature.

In partnership with Love Beyond Walls, we brought bring two initiatives to life that supported people experiencing homelessness — a public exhibit on the lived experience of homelessness, and a community support program and campaign that placed handwashing stations across the US and internationally.

Creating Equitable Company Cultures

A research and design project for a global technology client, exploring the interpersonal, cross-cultural moments that shape workplace culture. The work produced a framework and story collection to serve as the foundation for a global DEI training program, using specific, contextual human stories to spark awareness, dialogue, and action toward more equitable ways of working.

Improving Vision Care Behaviors in Road Transport

A behavioral research and design project in partnership with a global vision health organization, exploring key behaviors across the distance vision journey within a road safety program in Nigeria. Working across transport hubs, a joint team conducted remote research and in-country fieldwork to understand drivers' lived realities and the barriers shaping camp attendance, screening, glasses purchase, and consistent wear. Insights were synthesized into a behavioral report and explored through three collaborative strategy sessions, culminating in a strategic playbook for the program's next phase.

Impact Week

Design Thinking for social good

In 2024, I joined Impact Week for a week of Design Thinking in Shillong, India. As a senior teacher, my role was to teach the design thinking method to junior teacher who then helped local students apply the methods when solving regional problems.
